Sketches / Pradasphere

Did you know Lorde was in town? Playing a secret concert for the opening of Prada's new exhibition Pradasphere in Hong Kong? No? Me either, but don't worry us plebes still got the chance to check out the fabulous exhibition housed in a temporary but glorious structure on top of Pier 4 in Central.

You've never seen the Lamma Island pier look so glamourous, the whole building got a Prada makeover with 'Yue Shue Wan' proclaimed in white letters on a sleek black background. And when you step inside onto the lush black and green checkered carpeting you are transformed into Miuccia's world and the brand's history starting from the 1970's onwards.

If it's one thing I love it's visiting fashion exhibitions.
Here's a few of the sketches I made at the exhibition, I love doing quick sketches while looking at the real thing it makes all the difference in making drawings with a lively immediate quality. After I got home I added a thin wash of colour in gouache and watercolour.

Drawings / Giuseppe Zanotti Gold Star Heels

The other day my mom and I went to the IFC mall to get cakes and coffees at Agnes B. (we had coupons!). We saw these really glamorous Giuseppe Zanotti gold star heels at their store window and they reminded me of Kim Kardashian and all the things she has that I secretly covet: money, fame, a huge family and an ability to make everyone forgive all your past mistakes.

Some new drawings I've been working on that I really like, sketched from life all the shoes in my closet that I buy for whatever reason but hardly ever wear. In some ways these feel like a continuation from these other shoe drawings and these portrait experiments.

A short little post today, some sketches I made of my favourite Balenciaga shoes through Nicolas Ghesquière's years designing at the historically Spanish fashion house.

In my knockoff Moleskine with my Pentel brush pen and coloured with gouache.

Treading in the Thirties

I've been a fan of Guy Bourdin's photography since forever but he's sort of a gross man. I remember doing a research project on him in my History of Fashion Illustration class and he'd make his models crawl into scary places with rats and stuff and just generally be a dick about things. But never the less, I find his images fascinating, disembodied limbs and all, so macrabre yet glamorous. For this sketch I was also inspired by shoes from the 1930's, they can have such an orthopedic charm to them.

My portfolio needed some freshening up with some new pieces so I thought I'd make a new header for my blog since I've been neglecting it a little bit. But what was meant to be a header turned out to be more of a footer (get it? get it?), I might have to make new one with some heads and hairs instead (perhaps from another decade).
